Community & Outreach Centre

A Tiny Outpost with a Big Impact

External support for the conservancy and its community is channeled through the Ngilai Outreach Centre, a tiny outpost in Ngilai village with a big impact.

Connection — Empowerment — Conservation

What the Centre Provides

The Ngilai Outreach Centre operates as a cyber cafe and community hub, providing solar-powered charging, wi-fi access, computers, and IT training to a community that would otherwise have to travel a four-hour round trip to reach the nearest town with these facilities.

By bringing connectivity and digital literacy to Ngilai village, the centre opens doors to education, communication, and economic opportunity—supporting the same community that protects the conservancy’s ecosystems every day.

Past Impact

Through the Outreach Centre, Ngilai has facilitated medical outreach programs that have already made a tangible difference:

  • Dental clinic: Over 100 people received dental care during community dental outreach
  • Eye exams: Vision screenings provided to community members
  • 200 sanitary pads distributed to local schools, supporting girls’ education and wellbeing
Community women participating in grassland restoration project

2026 Goals

Building on the success of past outreach programs, the Ngilai Outreach Centre has ambitious plans for 2026:

  • CHAT family planning partnership: Partnering with the CHAT (Community Health Africa Trust) program to bring family planning education and services to the conservancy’s communities
  • Vetwild livestock healthcare program: Collaborating with Vetwild to provide veterinary care for community livestock, improving animal health, reducing disease transmission, and strengthening the economic resilience of pastoral families
